As with all families,
there are two main branches. My Paternal branch are
the Drake's from the East End area of London, with
the Maternal branch, Edwards, from the Tottenham
area of North London.
Below are most of the details that I have been able
to find in a search that began when I found out I
was adopted. That was in 1977, aged 37. It's been a
long haul trying to find my birth family and I am
still searching. Thank goodness for the Internet. It
has made things so much easier. I have been building
a family tree and has thrown up one or two smiles,
as they all do. With the same First names repeating all
the way down the line
From a Swiss Count to toothbrush makers, and
horsehair dressers to lightermen, plus the usual
collection of hawkers and bricklayers |

The main breakthrough
came at the end of November, 2004. I posted a
message on one of the genealogy boards, Genes
Reunited, requesting information about adoptee's
tracing their families. This was not the first board
I had posted on.
One lady emailed me and suggested I get in touch
with Joan Allan and post a message on her website,
MyFolks.co.uk, which I did.
Left: Pat, Mother and Shirley
Within an hour, Joan had contacted me and let me
know I had an older half sister, Shirley, who had
died in the early 90's. Joan also found Gerald's,
Shirley's husband, present address. I wrote to him
and he phoned me up a few days later, telling me
that I had a half sister, Pat, who living in Harlow.
He gave me a couple of addresses in Harlow and told
me that my mother had remarried. I wrote to Pat and
she phoned me on Tuesday 21st. December, 2004. What
a Christmas present!
We met for the first time on January 2nd. 2005.
Quite an emotional meeting!

The Hooligans - Ellie
and Matthew.
I think that Ellie is going to be a mountaineer when
she grows up, as she seems to have no fear and wants
to climb everything, and Matthew? MMMM Maybe a
gardener!
What did I
start when I got him a Link Board raised garden? |
