Computing

After several years of using Microsoft’s FrontPage 97 and 2000 for the websites I have produced, I am now Using MS FrontPage 2003. I did try out Serif’s WebPlus X2, but just couldn't get my head around it.  I have thought for some time why I couldn't get converted - guess it that I am stuck in my old ways

Gardening

When I took over my flat in September 2004, the weeds towering above me, so some industrial strength weed killer was sprayed to blast them all.  I wish I had taken some photos then, but I did take one before I started to get to work on it.  I chose to gravel the lot for a couple of reasons.  I didn't want to grass it, because that would have meant having a lawn mower, with nowhere to keep one.

The other reason is that about 4" below the surface, is a layer of roadstone which would have taken an age to dig up, so, it's gravel and mainly pots and containers, which can be shifted around to suit how I feel.

Music, Radio & TV

My taste in music is varied and depends upon mood I'm in, but I like most old style C&W, Folk-Rock, Fleetwood Mac,  Moody Blues,  that sort of thing. I've got a bit of selection of classical, and have< been even known to like The Beautiful South and The Lighthouse Family, plus one or two of the modern bands, Empire of the Sun, Fleet Foxes, that type.  I really like RunRig, a Scottish Folk Rock Band, who've been around since the early 70's,  I now have 23 of their albums and the DVD of the Stirling Castle Concert.

Radio: Favourite radio stations are BBC Radio 2, KLFM and Classic FM , and I have the radio on most of the day, as I do with the kettle.

TV: TV programmes I mainly watch are  The Six O’Clock News on BBC, The One Show, Gardeners World, Documentaries and historical, especially Animal Cops. Quite a few Sports Programmes get in there too, especially if Liverpool are playing! Cannot abide soaps, cooking (except maybe Rick Stein) or reality shows!!! I watched BB for about 5 minutes several years ago and never since.

Other Bits

Photography: I've always been interested in photography but recently changed over to digital. I have a Kodak ZD710. The camera has so many features and I'm still working my way round it. I’m even trying out video.

Liverpool FC: Not a fanatic, but I do like to follow them. An age old interest, from the days when I was a mere lad on Merseyside. Even got the T-shirts!

Radio Amateur - G4UQN. Though not operating these days, I still have my licence. I still have some of my gear and used to operate on the 70cm, 2,Top, 10, 20 and 40 meter bands. Might have to sell all the gear.

I have recently found and taken an interest in AIS (Automatic Identification System) - a short range coastal tracking system used on ships and by Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) for identifying and locating vessels by electronically exchanging data with other nearby ships and VTS stations.  Many of the receiving stations are owned and operated by Radio Amateurs.  Take a look through the link below - you'll be suprised how many tankers are anchored off Southwold!
